Effective November 25th, Freddie and Fannie are now allowing previous homeowners to buy back their property for the market value instead of the high mortgage that was against it. This should have been done originally. While I am not a fan of people pulling equity out of their homes and not having to pay it back, I believe many people got caught up in the hype of purchasing a home when the prices were over inflated. Here's the story: http://www.inman.com/2014/11/26/fannie-or-freddie-ordered-to-let-former-owners-buy-reos-at-market-value/
Every year for many years,, Ray Camacho and his daughter, Santana, put on a Toy and Food Drive Car Show to benefit the less fortunate families for the holidays. This year it was no different. Here is Ray with his 1954 Corvette Nomad that he built, advertising the Toy and Food Drive Car Show for this year. They had a wonderful turnout with many prizes and raffle drawings. They gathered approximately (143) bags of food and 160 Toys. The Sponsors were very giving and supportive this year. Ray tells me they may buy more food and toys. The food was donated to the Resource Center and RayTana & Associates will have their 2nd. Annual Toy Distribution and Luncheon on December 13th. (last year they serviced 130 children with toys & lunch for the children & parents). Santa was present & the children had their picture taken with Santa AND were able to go home with a very nice framed picture. Saturday, November 1, 2014, local South San Francisco resident, Charlie Neuman's car won an award for Outstanding Car in the Annual Toy and Food Car Show. I was lucky enough to present this award. In this photo, you see Charlie with his award,. Charlie's car is a 1967 Morris Minor , 2-Door Saloon. It's fuel tank holds only 6.5 gallons but gets 32 miles to the gallon!!! Pretty good. Its cruising speed is 65 mpg. The price new was $1,555. I spoke with Charlie and he told me his mother used to work at the Morris Minor car factory in Oxford, England, sending them all over the globe. He purchased it in 2006 from a retired police officer who hoped Charlie could restore it. Charlie feels lucky that he was the one to make that happen. It is beautiful, don't you think? To the left and behind Charlie's car is a 1953 Ford. It is owned by Robert Nicholson of Daly City. According to Charlie, Mr. Nicholson bought it because it was like his original car growing up. It has 88,000 miles on it. Wow, that's quite a lot for a car of that age. Interesting enough, when I was in high school, my boyfriend at the time, who is now my husband, had a 1953 red Ford just like this one. In fact, it was the first car in the parking lot at El Camino High School! Ray and his daughter host this ever year on the first Saturday of November. So watch for it next year, bring your donations and enjoy the car show.

There will always be someone trying to take advantage of others but when it comes close to home, you realize that it could happen to you or to your unsuspecting family member. My mother, who used to live in the house on Morningside in Sunshine Garden where I grew up, received something in the mail that told her she won some money. Of course, she did not as they wanted her to send some money in order to get the prize. Well, there is someone posing as an IRS Legal Representative asking for more than $1,000 to pay a delinquent tax bill. Apparently, he called her home number and at first she fell for it until she found out otherwise. Here is more information on that Green Dot Scam. Green Dot Money Pak Cards Scam from CBS
There will be a very informative Housing Resource Fair coming to South San Francisco next month. To name a few, there will be presentations regarding: First Time Homebuyers Information on Reverse Mortgages Shared Housing and more. I am not a fan on Reverse Mortgages and I think that you need to be especially informed on the pros and cons of these mortgages. But in some cases it may be the best way to go. They are usually very expensive, so ask many, many questions and I think it is wise to have a neutral party go with you should you consider this option. Here is the informatiion:
- Saturday, May 10, 2014
- 9:00am - 1:00pm
- Municipal Services Building
- 33 Arroyo Drive
- South San Francisco, CA 94080
- Housing Resource in SSF on May 10
I just read an article in The Daily Journal today stating that Assemblyman Kevin Mullin, D-South San Francisco, and state Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo have authored 3 bills between them to cut down on the use of antibiotics in animals. Antibiotic Legislation The FDA is no help as they have only "issued a request" to cut back on their use to promote growth in these animals. You see, one of the problems with using antibiotics is that these animals are being fed corn instead of grass which the animals should be eating. Cows are given corn because it is the cheapest form of food but it causes a problem with their digestive system. This makes them sick, thus the antibiotics. As an example, if you eat junk food and sugar all day long, do you think you will be healthy or will you be going to your doctor for prescription drugs to fix the problem? It is a vicious circle. Prescription drugs are over prescribed in humans and also in our animal feed. When you watch TV and you see a commercial on prescription drugs, we all laugh at the possible side effects because the side effects are usually worse than the disease. But it is no joke. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association,(JAMA) over 100,000 people die every year from the side effects of prescription drugs. If you eat food that our bodies were meant to eat and not processed foods, a person will mostly likely be healthier. I know because I used to be sick all the time, taking prescription drugs for allergies, infections, stomach issues, etc. After doing research about 3 years ago, I went to a naturopathic doctor who discovered what my problems were and I am no longer on any prescription drugs. I eat whole foods and feel a whole lot better. There are some great documentaries out there - "Food Matters", "Corn, Inc.", and a very good one "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". There are more but you will get the picture. These can be rented on Netflix. We have some great fresh produce at the Farmer's Market beginning May 3 at Orange Memorial Park Farmer's Market at South San Francisco's Orange Memorial Park Look around you, aren't the people who are taking prescription drugs worse off than the ones who aren't and who eat a healthy diet?
Here are the South San Francisco sales for March 2014. The lowest sale was at $380,000 and the highest sale was at $935,000. What you don't see is the the original listed price on 301 Chapman was $649,900 but because of its code violations that a new buyer has to take over, the price came down considerably.
